Description
The Dometic Recon 41L Hardside Cooler gives you a versatile food-and-drink store for camping weekends, touring stops and shared outdoor meals. Its 41L interior holds up to 67 cans, with an included divider and drop-in basket to help organise a mixed load instead of stacking everything together.
The space-efficient body pairs an injection-moulded shell and welded seams with 5 cm insulation. Open the lid from either side to suit your camp-kitchen layout, or lift it off completely when loading at home. Recon’s stackable design also makes it a useful centrepiece for a coordinated multi-cooler setup.
Is the Recon 41L right for your setup?
-
Balance capacity and footprint: the 41L size sits between the compact 16L and larger 69L Recon. It is a practical starting point for mixed food-and-drink packing, with space reserved for ice.
-
Check vehicle access: the body measures approximately 560 × 420 × 456 mm. Measure the intended storage area and allow clearance for the lid and carry handles.
-
Allow for loaded weight: empty weight is 11.38 kg. Your food, drinks and ice add to that figure, so plan both the loading position and the move from vehicle to campsite.
Key features
-
5 cm insulation: the insulated hardside construction helps keep packed contents cool without electrical power, making it straightforward to use away from a powered campsite.
-
Dual-opening, removable lid: access the cooler from either side or lift the lid off for a clear opening when loading, unloading and cleaning.
-
Stackable Recon design: non-slip feet locate in the lid recesses of other Recon coolers, helping you organise compatible coolers together. Allow for the total stacked height in your setup.
-
Magnetic insulated drain plug: the integrated drain gives you a practical way to empty melted ice water at the end of a trip.
-
Bottle-opener latch catches: die-cast metal catches also open bottles, keeping a useful camp-kitchen function on the cooler itself.
-
Lock and tie-down points: built-in points provide options for securing your cooler as part of a planned vehicle or campsite arrangement.
-
Folding carry handles: soft-touch grips help with handling, while the handles fold down when the cooler is positioned for storage.
-
Divider and basket included: create separate sections and keep smaller items together, making it easier to find what you need at meal times.

Packing and common questions
How much will fit once ice is added?
The litre and can figures are capacity guides. Ice, ice blocks, bottles and food containers all occupy space, so plan around your actual combination rather than treating the can count as a packed-with-ice guarantee.
How long will it stay cold?
Ice retention depends on the starting temperature of the contents, the amount of ice, outdoor conditions and how often the lid is opened. Keep these factors in mind when planning how to pack and access the cooler during your trip.
Can I pack bottles upright?
The Recon accommodates upright wine bottles. Bottle shapes and heights vary, so check your particular bottles and leave room for the rest of the load.
