An IGT camping table is a modular table that lets you fit compatible cooking, worktop and storage inserts into a frame. To build your first camp kitchen, choose a frame, the correct legs, a cooking insert and enough worktop to prepare a meal. Check what each product includes before ordering: a frame alone is not a complete table.
IGT stands for Iron Grill Table, Snow Peak’s modular kitchen system. Other brands also sell tables described as IGT-compatible, but that does not guarantee that every insert, leg or accessory will fit. This guide explains the parts and gives you two practical layouts using products listed at Cosy Camp, our camping store in Knoxfield, Melbourne.
What does an IGT unit mean?
A unit describes how much space an insert occupies inside the frame. It does not describe the number of people who can sit around the table.
- Half unit: half of a standard insert position. Two compatible half-unit inserts fill one unit.
- One unit: one insert position, such as a worktop panel or the Snow Peak Flat Burner.
- Two units: two positions together, such as Snow Peak’s wide bamboo insert.
For a size reference, Snow Peak specifies its one-unit CK-125TR bamboo panel as 250 × 360 mm. That is the panel’s footprint, not a universal cut-out specification for every product labelled IGT. A burner’s overall dimensions can include controls, supports or other parts outside its mounting area. See the manufacturer’s one-unit panel specifications.
The basic planning rule is to add up the inserts: one one-unit burner + one two-unit worktop = a full three-unit frame. Half-unit positions can offer more layout choices, but the frame must support the particular inserts you choose.
The parts of an IGT camp kitchen
| Part | Purpose | Buying check |
|---|---|---|
| Frame | Holds the inserts and connects to its supporting legs. | Check unit capacity, packed size and whether legs and panels are included. The Snow Peak IGT 3 Unit Frame is frame only. |
| Legs | Support the frame at your chosen working height. | Snow Peak’s separate IGT leg sets contain two legs. A standalone CK-149 frame needs four legs, so buy two sets. |
| Worktop insert | Fills an opening with a surface for preparing and serving food. | The Bamboo Insert Wide occupies two units. A worktop panel is not automatically a chopping board or a hot-pan rest. |
| Cooking insert | Places a compatible stove or grill in the frame. | Check its unit size, support requirements, fuel arrangement and cookware limits. The Snow Peak Flat Burner takes one unit. |
| Storage insert | Replaces worktop space with a basket, tray or box. | Allow for its depth below the frame. Every storage position reduces the space available for cooking or preparation. |
| Extension tabletop | Adds usable surface outside the frame. | Check the connection fittings and extra support legs. Snow Peak’s Regular Bamboo Extension Table includes two joint fittings, but no legs. |
| Accessory mounts and carry bags | Add organisation or make the separate parts easier to transport. | Confirm the exact clamp, rail or bag model. A tabletop accessory may need a separately purchased mounting part. |
Snow Peak’s IGT introduction explains the frame, insert and leg system. When shopping, use the contents list for the exact product or bundle; accessories in a styled photograph may be separate purchases.
Choose a comfortable working height
Decide whether you want to cook from a low chair, sit at a dining table or prepare food standing up. Snow Peak lists four IGT leg heights: 300 mm for ground-level use, 400 mm for low seating, 660 mm for seated dining and 830 mm for standing work. These are the system’s named height options; check the assembled specification for the table you buy. See Snow Peak’s leg range.
A 400 mm setup suits a relaxed low-chair camp. It is unlikely to be your preferred bench for a long session of chopping while standing. A 660 mm setup may suit your dining chairs better, while a taller cook may still find an 830 mm kitchen lower than their home bench.
Before choosing, measure a table you already find comfortable. Consider chair seat height, armrests, knee space and how far you need to reach across the worktop. Choose one height for a directly connected frame and extension, with matching support legs. Do not assume a small levelling adjustment converts low legs into standing-height legs.
A minimal starter setup for one or two campers
Our suggested starting point is a three-unit Snow Peak kitchen at low-chair height: one burner and one uninterrupted two-unit worktop. It leaves room to put down ingredients while you cook without starting with a long list of accessories. It is a proposed layout based on published product information, not a hands-on test.
| Buy | Quantity | Included and extra |
|---|---|---|
| IGT 3 Unit Frame — CK-149 | 1 frame | Includes the frame. Legs, worktop, burner and frame carry bag are separate. |
| 400 mm Leg Set — CK-112 | 2 sets | Two legs per set: four frame legs in total. |
| Flat Burner — GS-450R | 1 burner | Includes the burner assembly, storage case and retaining band. Budget separately for the specified fuel canister and cookware; fuel inclusion in the local listing needs confirmation. |
| Bamboo Insert Wide — CK-126TR | 1 insert | Includes one two-unit worktop. Bring a separate chopping board and suitable heat protection. |
Availability note: The Flat Burner is included as a proposed component, but its Cosy Camp product page was unavailable when checked. Ask us to confirm supply before ordering the remaining parts for this particular setup.
Finished layout: one unit of cooking space plus two units of worktop, supported by four 400 mm legs. The burner’s own short standalone supports are not the legs that hold up the IGT frame.
Snow Peak documents the CK-149 frame, CK-112 leg pairs and two-unit bamboo insert as parts of this system. Its GS-450R information also identifies the CK-149 as a compatible frame.
You will still need your cooking and cleaning essentials: a suitable pot or pan, utensils, chopping board, water, washing-up supplies and food storage. A frame carry bag is useful but optional. There is no need to add a hanging rack or extra burner until a trip shows you what is missing.
If you prefer dining-chair height from the start, substitute two sets of 660 mm legs for the two 400 mm sets. You do not need both heights for the initial setup.
A family upgrade that keeps your original parts
For a family of three or four, our first upgrade would be more preparation and serving space. Keep the starter frame, burner, bamboo insert and four legs, then add the Snow Peak Regular Bamboo Extension Table, CK-116TR.
- Buy one extension: includes the tabletop and two joint fittings.
- Buy one additional matching leg set: two extra legs support the extension’s outer end. Choose 400 mm legs if retaining the starter height.
- Reuse all the starter components: the completed layout has four legs under the frame and two under the extension, six in total.
Snow Peak’s Japanese specifications give the extension a tabletop size of 846 × 496 mm and state that two legs are required. Its fittings allow connection to the IGT frame; follow the instructions for the attachment position you choose. See the CK-116TR specifications and connection guide.
This provides a separate place for ingredients or serving dishes while keeping your existing cooking layout. It is not a promise of four full dining places: check your chairs, the campsite footprint and clearance around the stove. A separate family dining table may still be useful.
If you change the whole connected kitchen from 400 mm to 660 mm, you need three pairs of 660 mm legs, replacing all six supports. The original four low legs can be kept for another configuration.
Add a second burner only if your meals need two pans cooking at once. In a three-unit frame, two one-unit burners leave just one unit for worktop; the two-unit bamboo panel would have to come out. A compatible four-unit frame offers another route, but it is a new frame purchase, not an expansion of the CK-149’s opening.
What about a folding IGT table?
If you prefer a table supplied with its worktop panels, consider the BUENOFE 4.5 Unit Folding IGT Table. Cosy Camp’s current listing specifies height settings of 410, 515 and 625 mm, with two one-unit panels and five half-unit panels. That adds up to 4.5 units. It also lists an under-table mesh basket and carry bag.
Those are the local listing’s stated contents, not a bundle that includes a stove. Compatibility with specific Snow Peak burners, legs, extensions or TTA accessories is unverified in this guide. The listing’s “TTA-style” mounting description should not be treated as approval for every Snow Peak TTA component. Confirm the exact combination before buying.
How to check IGT compatibility
Start with the model numbers of both the table and the insert. A shared unit size is helpful, but it does not establish a complete fit.
- Check the mounting shape. Confirm the opening, supporting lip, locating points and any required adaptor. Overall length and width alone are insufficient.
- Check below the tabletop. A stove body, fuel connection or deep basket must clear folding braces, shelves and other inserts.
- Check the fuel arrangement. The hose, control and canister holder need their intended positions and clearances. Do not improvise a mount because a burner drops into the opening.
- Check external fittings separately. Legs, rails, extension hooks and clamps have their own interfaces. Insert compatibility does not prove accessory compatibility.
- Check the instructions and load limits. Use the requirements for the exact models and configuration, including cookware restrictions.
For example, Snow Peak’s GS-450R specifications limit pot diameter to 23 cm and exclude Dutch ovens. Confirm the instructions supplied with your local stove. Use cooking appliances outdoors as directed, and check current campsite and fire restrictions before cooking.
If a manufacturer has not confirmed a combination, ask Cosy Camp to check it before ordering. A claim that a product is “IGT-compatible” should be the start of that check.
When a simple folding table is enough
A conventional folding table is often sufficient if you make straightforward meals, already own a standalone stove and mainly need a surface for a chopping board, plates and drinks. It can also be a sensible choice for occasional trips or when you want fewer separate parts to pack.
Choose its working height, usable surface and packed dimensions first. If using a stove on top, both the table and stove instructions must permit that arrangement, with suitable heat resistance and clearances.
An IGT kitchen makes more sense when you value a built-in cooking position and want to rearrange preparation, storage and serving space over time. You can also keep a folding table for family dining and use a compact IGT setup just for cooking. Browse Cosy Camp’s camping tables alongside the IGT system range.
Frequently asked questions
Does a three-unit IGT frame include three tabletop panels?
Not necessarily. Three units describes capacity. The Snow Peak CK-149 listing includes the frame only; buy legs and inserts separately unless a specific bundle lists them.
How many Snow Peak leg sets do I need?
For the standalone CK-149 setup here, buy two pairs, giving four legs. The CK-116TR extension adds another pair. A complete folding table may have a different support system.
Can I mix IGT brands?
Some combinations may work, but this guide does not verify cross-brand fit. Check the exact models, mounting details and clearances, including fuel and accessory connections.
Is 400 mm a good height for standing food preparation?
It is a low-chair height. For standing work, consider a taller setup and compare it with a bench you find comfortable. Your chair and cooking posture matter more than choosing the same height as someone else.
Can I start without a built-in burner?
Yes. Fill the frame with compatible worktop inserts and use your existing cooking setup separately. Add a suitable cooking insert later if it solves a practical problem.
Are these setups available as complete kits?
They are suggested shopping lists assembled from separate listings, not advertised Cosy Camp bundles. Check each product’s current availability and contents before ordering.
